The Environmental Biogeochemistry Grup (EBG) is part of Environmental Chemistry Department at the Institute of Environmental Assessment and Water Research
(IDAEA) that belongs to the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC). Our research group develops chemistry research with the purpose of solving
basic and technological issues in this discipline for the better
knowledge of geosphere, biosphere and the real impact of human activity
on the ecosystems. The research lines range from environmental
chemistry and geochemistry to the study of bioactive compounds,
biocatalysis and combinatorial chemistry.
Since its constitution in 1979, our research has been based on the study oforigin, transportation and evolution of the transference of natural and
anthropogenic organic and organometallic compounds to the environment for a better
understanding of the sources and processes that control their
distribution and their possible effects on the ecosystems and human
health, and thus reinforce the scientific groundings of environmental
management. With this aim, three complementary strategies have been
used, analytical, biogeochemical and ecotoxicological.
